Longchamp, a French leather and luxury goods company, was founded in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain. The company originally produced leather coverings for pipes, however, by 1955 they had expanded to include small leather goods. In 1970, the company opened its first boutiques in Hong Kong and Japan, where they were well-known for their lightweight travel pieces. In the 1980s, Phillipe Cassegrain (Jean’s son) was given the company’s reins. It was during this time that the company began producing clothing, scarves, and other accessories.

Today, Longchamp’s most well-known handbags are those belonging to their Le Pliage line, which have become quite popular in the United States. These water-resistant, nylon totes and duffel bags collapse into a compact shape for easy storage.
